It was a 5.5 hour drive to Chicago and we had little problems along the way. We had Chicago style deep dish pizza, went to Navy Pier, saw the iconic bean and went to the begin 66 sign. It was a great start to the trip and the right amount of busy and relaxing.
1. What did you photograph today? How different are the before/after pictures and how does it make you feel?
There were no before/after pictures today, we just had fun photoshoots in pretty areas and got our picture by the begin 66. You can see the best ones below.
2. What did you do to make the trip more than your standard road trip? How have you made it stimulating and productive so far?
We made sure to limit our electronics basically the entire trip so far. We played car games and were only on our phones for directions and pictures. We also filmed skits in our hotel room while we swam in the pool to keep us having fun and enjoying each other's company.
3. What was the general morale for the day (positive or negative)? Are there any notable trends? Any suggestions to improve morale and create a more positive atmosphere?
The morale was very positive and excited. We were anxious in the beginning but now I think we all feel just excited for the rest. There were a few arguments over driving and how to use the EZPass, but in general it was very positive.
4. What logistical issues were faced today? How were they handled?
The only logistical issues were directions, mostly when we were walking around Chicago. We didn't freak out, we just kept wandering until we found the right way.
5. Were there any personal issues that came up? If so, how did we take care of it?
No personal issues came up today.
6. Are there any cultural differences you noticed between where you were today and Ohio?
Not really, we are still in the Midwest. There were slight differences just because it's a big city like how the pedestrians and drivers were both really aggressive. Other than that it just felt like another big city in Ohio.
7. Has the excitement for adventure present before the trip maintained itself up to this point?
It is still very high and we are looking forward to the rest of the days to come.
8. Have you felt like you have “over-documented” the trip yet? If so, how will you adjust and if not, how will you make sure everyone is focused on living in the present rather than focusing on making physical copies of the memories?
Not yet, I definitely feel more organized when coming to cameras. I know now not to bring the whole bag and just to bring my video camera. I will only bring my DSLR when I do fancy photography out west.
9. Have you found a Greater Meaning to this experience?
Not yet, right now it just feels super exciting because it's our first time on a big trip with no adult supervision.
